Vivia- to your critics, let's not forget that many of the 20 firms now being investigated by the EEOC futiley obeyed in advance by making cosmetic changes to their websites, deleting all references to diversity. History teaches us that obeyance in advance only invites more oppressive behavior by autocratic oppressors. It teaches the oppressor. That's exactly what has happened to these firms. History also teaches us that collective action is an effective tool for stopping autocratic. Read Tim Snyder, On Tyranny, Twenty Lessons from the Twentieth Century and Gene Sharp's From Dictatorship to Democracy, A Conceptual Framework. We may not want to believe what's happening to us, but sometimes you have to make yourself believe what your eyes see. Your call for collective action is spot on, Vivia.
💯 this is how I feel about big legacy publications and how they are not meeting the moment, at all. hopefully, these institutions are simply readjusting their foothold amid the initial chaos before setting up real collective action. otherwise, what is even the point of their existence?
Long time listener first time caller. Hey Vivia I just upgraded to paid. Should have done it sooner. I do think there are some financial considerations at play along with all the items you mention. Paul Weiss was just fired from a case. There are only a handful of firms that can step in. The pool gets smaller. Hate to say it but it resonates.
Big law is made up of lawyers who are notoriously risk averse despite the bravado we often see in the news or on TV. However, they are also well organized, which makes it all the more disappointing that theyvate falling in lockstep with the EOs and not pushing back. I can't help but think of the boiling frog. Everything is ok until it's not!
This isn't Trump deporting Shohei Ohtani or Juan Soto. It seems very out of touch to think that there will a lot of tears shed over the troubles of the elite of the Democratic elite.
When there's an Executive Order against undocumented roofers or auto mechanics, then maybe there will be some real outrage.

I think Big Law will go the way of some of their clients and cave thinking this will protect them. It will not.

Thank you, Murray, for becoming a paid subscriber and sharing your comment. It’s not a feel-good time in Big Law or anywhere else.
And WTF Brad Karp. So guess just another opportunist. So awful
Vivia- you're speaking truth to power! Keep it up!

I agree with you on this.
