Right on Vivia! Capitulation is the fast track to authoritarianism. Non-violent protests are a collective act of resistance proven over the course of history to be the most successful path from dictatorship to democracy. I was there, too. We turned out thousands. Our protest spilled over from the original site to twonadditional sites. It made me smile for the entire two hours. Longer than at any other time under Trump's rule! Your friends and acquaintances should join us next time!
No ICE wanted here. We drink our Bourbon neat in Kentucky.
very local sign. I also heard the fear in others advice about , “Be Careful!” as if a peaceful protest for a mile walk in a little town was a major danger.
East Hampton had a great turnout. More importantly, thank you Vivia for a forceful yet kind message to us all not to obey in advance. Trump is following the Orban/Erdogan playbook and determined and peaceful protests are one thing we can do. Ukrainians protested at the Maidan for months in 2014 with the Revolution of Dignity and affected regime change. Protests work.
I went to a protest in New London, CT and waved an American flag. Great turnout that felt more like a Fourth of July celebration than an angry march. It was incredibly fortifying to stand up for my country and reclaim the mantle of patriotism.
I was also “there” in my small city of San Luis Obispo, California with about 4,000 people in a city of under 50,000.
I particularly want to share two things that I heard recently, one right before that March and one yesterday the day after the March. Right before the March, I had a coffee with a friend who was not going because she was too angry and didn’t want to create a disturbance. She also told me that pictures from her earlier marches had been taken and that people she knows had figured out ways to harass her and that they have harassed her. I find that both awful and terrifying. Yesterday, I had lunch with a friend whose politics I do not share and she mentioned in passing about the.”riots” in Los Angeles. It made me close to certain about where she gets her news. These were both shocking but not stultifying moments.

I was there in NC!! Wouldn’t miss it.
My daughter’s sign at the March in Lexington, KY:

Please share this in the mainstream liberal media. Would be a great NYT op-ed.
Taisa, please feel free to share this.

So was I, our kid and spouse. In ruby red Texas.
Thank you!
